I wanted to make a font, but had to be specific in my direction, as I did not want my font to just be another display font.
Concept
To create a generic yet different font, I first had to find a different approach to "generic" lettering. In this endeavour I experimented with deconstruction of existing fonts to find what actually makes each style.
Development
My design evolved through drawings and computer modification, until it was finally ready to formalise as its own typeface.
Final
Using Glyphs Mini, I was able to create a functioning .otf typeface.

I was asked to create a poster to promote an upcoming church service. The title/theme for the service would be "What a tangled web we weave, when we practice to deceive", and I wished to embody at least some of that phrase within my artwork.
Concept
I decided to focus on the first half of the quote: "What a tangled web we weave" as this part has more flexibility to embody it in an obvious way such as to not risk confusing the meaning.
I took inspiration from spider-web fonts such as in the left image but wanted a much more tactile appearance than can be achieved with a digital illustration like this so decided I would explore creating it with thread.
Development
I approached the church knitting group to attain the thread, and used drawing pins stuck into mount-board to maintain the shape. I plotted the letterforms using a projector so that they would be accurate.
Final
Once I had woven all of the letters, I photographed it with lighting set up to hide any shadows then set the image onto the page with the remainder of the quote below in the same font.
